Before you go
- Heat, lack of water and wind can produce dehydration although in winter it can be cold. The route is of an overall downhill trend, despite having a considerable ascent at first. It is one of the most popular paths on La Palma, where walkers are always to be seen. Since it is one of the most frequented paths, the following advice is aimed at walkers with only limited experience. The walk should only be attempted with suitable equipment. Waterproofs and warm clothing in winter, a hat, sunglasses and sunblock at all times of year, good footwear and, above all, plenty of water. Food should also be carried and, as an extra safety measure, a mobile phone. Do not set off too late – nine o´clock in the morning is a good time – to avoid spending the hottest hours of the day crossing the most desolate areas.
- After heavy rain, take care on the steepest sections and below cliffs: there may be damage to the trail.
- A support vehicle is required or, alternatively, a taxi can be booked.
- All year round except the hottest summer days.
- Protected area: Parque Natural de Cumbre Vieja. Monumento Natural de Los Volcanes de Teneguía. Sitio de Interés Científico de Las Salinas de Fuencaliente
