Before you go
- Inclement weather conditions: it can be hot, cold or pleasantly warm depending on the day. The altitude, sun and wind produce rapid dehydration. Mist can cause navigation problems. This stage can take longer than the previous one, but it is less tiring. The last section is a forest track where the going is relatively easy. Nevertheless, the walk entails considerable physical effort and the route, despite its overall downhill trend, involves continual uphill and downhill sections, especially during the first part. Take generous supplies of water, the springs along the way may be dry. Set out as early as possible, preferably at first light. Hikers who temporarily lose the path, are advised to retrace their steps until finding it again.
- After heavy rain, take care on the steepest sections and below cliffs: there may be damage to the trail.
- A support vehicle is required or, alternatively, a taxi can be booked.
- All year round except the hottest summer days. Beware of snow in winter.
- Protected area: Parque Nacional de La Caldera de Taburiente. Parque Natural de Las Nieves. Parque Natural de Cumbre Vieja
